Hello, my name is Hiroshi Tomita.

Craftsmanship Rooted in Careful Work
Streamside Carpentry was founded by Hiroshi Tomita in Sisters, Oregon, in 2021, shaped by a lifelong connection to craft, natural materials, and the quiet details that give a space its character.
Hiroshi comes from a lineage of builders and makers. On his mother’s side are architects and builders, and miyadaiku on his father’s side — the highly skilled Japanese carpenters known for their precision, restraint, and deep respect for material and joinery. That blend of perspectives has shaped a way of working that values both structure and subtlety, where function and care carry equal weight.
The work itself is influenced by both Japanese woodworking traditions and modern building practices — a balance of precision and restraint, where nothing is unnecessary and every detail is allowed to serve a purpose. Rather than chasing trends or ornamentation, the focus is on proportion, alignment, and materials that feel honest, durable, and comfortable to live with.
Materials are selected for longevity and low environmental impact where possible, favoring finishes and assemblies that age naturally, avoid unnecessary chemical permanence, and reduce impact on the human body as well as the environment.
Before starting Streamside Carpentry, Hiroshi spent years working in finish carpentry and residential construction, developing a close attention to the details that define how a home feels — the reveal of a cabinet door, the transition between materials, the way light moves across wood throughout the day.
Over time, that same attention extended beyond building. Time spent in the landscapes of Central Oregon — rock climbing in the Cascades, foraging in the forests, and cooking with seasonal ingredients — became an extension of the same mindset: careful observation, patience, and respect for natural systems.
Today, Streamside Carpentry focuses on semi-custom cabinetry, built-ins, and interior spaces that bring that sensibility into the home. Kitchens, vanities, closets, mudrooms, offices, and built-ins are designed to feel calm, functional, and quietly integrated into daily life.
Based in Sisters, Oregon, the studio works closely with homeowners to create spaces that feel personal without excess — shaped by use, grounded in material, and built to last.
